About Safado
Safado is a bold leather-and-spice eau de parfum for men, inspired by Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent. It is the most uncompromising fragrance in our range and it is not for everyone, which is precisely why the people who love it love it completely.
Coriander, bergamot, artemisia and clary sage open it with a bitter, herbal snap, cold and almost aggressive. Do not expect it to be pleasant at first. Within fifteen minutes the heart unfolds, and it is enormous: clove, cinnamon, jasmine, geranium, carnation and iris, all at once, spicy and floral and faintly soapy in the grand old style.
The base is legendary and slightly feral. Incense and ambergris bring dry smoke, honey adds a sticky golden sweetness, leather and civet give it that warm, animalic, skin-on-skin quality, and oakmoss, patchouli, vetiver and tonka anchor everything to the ground. It smells like a person rather than a product, which is a rare and unsettling thing.
Wear it with intent. Two sprays, maximum, on cool evenings, to dinners and nights where you want to be an event rather than a guest. It lasts and it travels, and it will linger on a jacket for a week. Give it a full hour before you form an opinion. Safado is a fragrance for men who already know who they are. Those who find it too much will say so immediately, and those who love it will wear nothing else for the rest of the winter.

If you love Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent, Safado shares its DNA unmistakably. The bitter herbal opening, the huge spicy-floral heart built on clove and carnation, the honeyed leather, the animalic civet and the mossy incense base are all here, and the overall effect is the same kind of proud, old-school powerhouse.
Ours is marginally cleaner. The civet is present but a little tamer, and the honey reads slightly sweeter and less sharp, which makes our version a touch more approachable in a modern setting. The original is more openly animalic in the first hour. Both project strongly and both last all night. Safado is an original composition inspired by that classic, not a reproduction of it, and the softer animalic edge is what sets ours apart.

When to wear it
Cold nights only. This is a winter and late-autumn fragrance for dinners, parties and occasions with some ceremony to them, and it is far too much for an office or a hot afternoon. Two sprays below the collar, applied to skin rather than clothing, since it stains a shirt with scent for days. The 30ml at R70 is the right starting point here.

Is Safado too strong?

What does animalic actually mean?
It describes notes like civet and honey that smell warm and skin-like rather than clean. They give a fragrance intimacy and depth, but they can feel confronting if you are used to fresh scents.
