About Trained To Thrill
Trained To Thrill is a fresh aquatic-woody eau de parfum for men, inspired by Invictus by Paco Rabanne. It smells like effort, in the best possible way: clean skin, cold water and something faintly salty underneath.
Grapefruit opens it, juicy and a little bitter, with mandarin rounding out the citrus and a marine accord spreading underneath like spray off a wave. This is a deliberately modern opening, more sports drink than cologne, and it is bright enough to wake you up on the way out of the door.
Bay leaf gives the heart a green, slightly medicinal edge that stops the freshness from turning sugary, and jasmine adds a barely-there floral softness that most wearers register only as smoothness. The transition happens quickly, and within an hour you are into the base, which is the most interesting part of the composition.
Guaiac wood, oakmoss, patchouli and ambergris build a warm, salty, slightly smoky floor that reads as skin rather than perfume. It is the reason this fragrance works on people who claim they do not like fresh scents. Wear it to the gym, to Saturday morning errands, to summer lunches and to anywhere with sunlight and movement. It projects strongly for the first hour and then keeps close company for several more. Three or four sprays, and expect at least one compliment before midday.
If you love Invictus
If you love Invictus by Paco Rabanne, Trained To Thrill shares its DNA in the grapefruit and marine opening, the clean green heart, and the salty, woody ambergris base that gave the original its distinctive sporty character.
Ours is a touch less sweet in the middle. The bay leaf is more visible, which keeps the fragrance drier and greener where the original softens sooner, and our guaiac wood contributes a light smokiness in the dry-down. Projection is strong in the first hour on both. Longevity on ours runs around five to six hours on skin, which is normal for this style, so a midday refresh helps. It is inspired by that well-known profile and has a similar character, but it is an original composition rather than a reproduction of it.

When to wear it
Made for warm weather and daylight. Spring and summer are its natural home, and it suits the gym, the beach, weekend errands and casual daytime plans far better than a formal evening. Four sprays are safe because it stays clean rather than heavy. Keep the 30ml at R70 in a gym bag and the 100ml at R200 on the shelf for everyday use.

How long will it last through a hot day?
Around five to six hours on skin. Fresh aquatic fragrances burn off faster in heat, so carrying a small bottle for an afternoon top-up makes a noticeable difference.
Is it suitable for the gym?
It is one of the best in the range for it. Two sprays before training reads as clean and energetic, and it will not overwhelm people sharing the equipment next to you.
Can it be worn at night?
It can, though it is at its best in daylight. For evening wear, apply a little more than usual and layer it over an unscented moisturiser to help the woody base hold on.
