About Courageous Woman
Courageous Woman is a sweet-and-spicy woody eau de parfum for women, inspired by Black XS for Her by Paco Rabanne. It has an edge to it that most sweet fragrances lack.
Pink peppercorn opens it with a bright, prickly heat, and cranberry follows immediately: tart, red and a little sour, nothing like the syrupy berries that dominate most feminine launches. Tamarind blossom adds an exotic, faintly sticky sweetness underneath, and the three together make an opening that is far more interesting than the word fruity suggests.
Hellebore rose carries the heart almost alone, and it is a clever choice. Hellebore is a winter flower, and the note reads as cool and slightly green, which keeps the fruit from taking over and gives the composition a poised, composed centre.
The base is where it turns luxurious. Massoia wood is creamy and coconut-like, patchouli adds earth and depth, and vanilla smooths everything into a warm, lingering finish. The result is sweet but never childish, with enough woodiness to feel grown up.
Wear it on cool evenings, to dinners, birthdays and nights that call for a little drama. It lasts well and stays reasonably close after the first two hours. Two or three sprays are ideal; the vanilla and massoia expand as they warm, so patience serves you better than a heavy hand.

If you love Black XS for Her by Paco Rabanne, Courageous Woman belongs to the same family. Both open on tart red fruit and pink pepper, both use a single cool floral to hold the centre, and both land on a creamy woody base with vanilla and patchouli underneath.
Ours is a little tarter for longer. The cranberry stays sharp into the first hour, where the original sweetens sooner, and our massoia wood is more pronounced in the dry-down, giving a creamier, more coconut-tinged finish. Longevity is good at around seven hours, with projection that settles after the first two. Courageous Woman is inspired by that fragrance and shares a similar character, but it is an original composition with its own balance of fruit, flower and wood.

When to wear it
Autumn and winter evenings are its home, when cool air keeps the vanilla and wood from turning heavy. It is made for dinners, parties and nights out rather than a summer afternoon. Two or three sprays at the throat and wrists, applied before you dress. Start with the 30ml at R70 if you are unsure about sweeter fragrances, and size up once you know.

Is it very sweet?
It is sweet, but the pink pepper and tart cranberry balance it, and the woody base keeps it from becoming a dessert. It is a good middle ground between fruity and warm.
