About Galvanised
Galvanised is a rich, spicy woody oriental eau de parfum for men, inspired by Noir by Tom Ford. It is the heaviest fragrance in our men's range and the most interesting one to wear.
The opening is deceptive. Bergamot, verbena and caraway give a bright, almost herbal start, and pink pepper crackles over the top, but violet is already there in the background, powdery and cool, signalling that this is not going to be a simple fresh scent.
By the twenty-minute mark the heart has taken over and it is dense. Black pepper and nutmeg bring dry heat, Tuscan iris adds that expensive, cosmetic, lipstick-and-powder texture, and Bulgarian rose and geranium bloom underneath with clary sage cutting through the sweetness. It is unapologetically floral for a men's fragrance, and that is precisely what makes it feel luxurious rather than generic.
The base is where it becomes addictive. Amber and opoponax melt into vanilla, Indonesian patchouli leaf grounds the sweetness, vetiver keeps it dry, and a whisper of civet adds a warm, animalic hum that reads as skin rather than perfume. It lasts and it travels. Wear it on cold nights, to dinners, to anything that calls for a jacket. Two sprays are enough. This is a fragrance that rewards patience: the first ten minutes are the least interesting part of it.
If you love Noir
If you love Noir by Tom Ford, Galvanised shares its DNA in the most important places. Both are spicy oriental compositions built on a powdery iris and violet heart, both carry that unusual floral richness rarely found in men's fragrance, and both settle into a warm amber, vanilla and patchouli base with a faintly animalic edge.
Ours is bolder in the spice and lighter on the initial citrus. The pepper and nutmeg arrive sooner, and the vanilla in our base is a shade sweeter, which makes the dry-down more comforting and slightly less austere than the original. Performance is strong on both, though ours projects a little more in the first two hours. Galvanised is inspired by that composition and belongs to the same family, but it is our own creation, with a warmer finish and its own way of holding the spice.

When to wear it
Cold weather and evening light. This is a winter and late-autumn fragrance, at home at dinners, functions and long nights out, and too heavy for a summer afternoon. Two sprays maximum, both below the collar, so the sillage rises gently rather than arriving before you do. The 30ml at R70 is a wise first purchase for a scent this assertive.
Questions people ask
Does Galvanised smell like Noir?
It shares the same spicy oriental character, the powdery iris and violet heart and the warm amber base people recognise in Noir by Tom Ford. It is an original composition inspired by it, not a reproduction, and ours finishes sweeter.
Is Galvanised too feminine for a man?
It is floral, and deliberately so, but the pepper, patchouli and vetiver keep it firmly masculine. Iris and violet in a men's fragrance read as expensive rather than soft once they are on skin.
How strong is it?
Strong. This is a two-spray fragrance for most people, and one spray in a confined space. It projects well for two to three hours before settling into a rich skin scent that lasts most of the night.
Does it make a good gift for a partner?
It does, provided he enjoys bold fragrances. For someone who normally wears fresh, clean scents, this may be a leap. The 50ml at R120 is a generous gift size without the risk of a large bottle.
